Job summary
General role
The person holding the scenography position is responsible for the design, planning and visual and functional layout of exhibitions, events and artistic projects at the Sutton School of Art. It strives to create coherent, aesthetically pleasing and safe environments that showcase the works and enhance the public’s experience.
Job description
Design and creation
- Designing scenography tailored to exhibitions, cultural events and special projects
- Develop visual concepts consistent with the artistic vision, theme, and educational or cultural objectives.
- Produce sketches, plans, models or renderings (digital or manual)
- Propose creative solutions that take into account space, budget and time constraints.
Implementation and installation
- Plan and coordinate the installation of exhibitions and scenographic displays
- Supervise or participate in the assembly and dismantling of stage elements.
- Collaborate with artists, curators, technicians, and the internal team
- Ensuring the stability, safety and sustainability of facilities
Equipment and logistics management
- Select the necessary materials, furniture, lighting and accessories.
- Manage the inventory of stage equipment and recommend purchases as needed.
- Adhere to allocated budgets and timelines
- Ensure the maintenance, storage and reuse of stage props.
Collaboration and coordination
- Work closely with management, the programming team and artists.
- Participate in project planning and follow-up meetings
- Adapt the scenographic proposals based on the feedback received.
Standards and accessibility
- Integrate the principles of safety, universal accessibility and public circulation.
- Comply with applicable standards (health and safety, fire, accessibility)
- Promoting environmentally responsible practices in the choice of materials and methods
- Participate in events

Skills and qualities
- Initiative and resourcefulness
- Strong aesthetic sense
- Enjoys working in a team and with and for children + ability and willingness to work alone (on Saturdays)
- Skills: Photography, set design, writing
- Required experience (with portfolio)
- Recommendations required
- Independent for transport (driving licence and car) + living in the area (otherwise possibility of accommodation on site at weekends)
- Effective stress management in event management
- Interpersonal skills + Experience with the public
Requirements
- Significant experience in organising events and exhibitions
- Experience in team supervision or coordination (a significant advantage).
- Mandatory criminal record check.
- Available on weekends from 31 August to 11 October 2026
Working conditions
- Full-time seasonal employee from 11 May to 28 August (subsidised)
- 31 August to 11 October – Contractual – Self-employed
- Salary: $25/hour
- On-site work
